WELCOME TO THE 2020-2021 SCHOOL YEAR!

I hope this finds you all staying safe and well-- gearing up for this new school year!  I know this year is going to look different from any other year we have had, but please know that we are doing everything we can to keep everyone safe and to ensure that the education everyone receives is world class!

US History: This is a survey course that will cover United States History from The Civil War to present day.  We will spend time carefully examing the events and national movements for various eras.  Some of the topics covered include Reconstruction, The Second Industrial Revolution, WWI, The Great Depression, Civil Rights Movement, etc.  For this class, there is a mandatory End of Course exam and we will have three practice exams throughout the year- called Benchmark Tests.  Students will be notified when these will be given and they must be completed even if a student is absent.  This course is thorough and rigorous, but full of creative activities for students to stay engaged.

AP Human Geography: Advanced Placement Human Geography is the equivalent of a one-semester college-level course and is disgned to provide the student with an in-depth understanding of the earth's regions, religions, languages, recent regional histories, governments, economic systems, and physical features.  By the end of the year, each student will be able to watch or read the news and understand the issues that define our world.  There will be a fair amount of writing, mostly in the style of a free response question in the style of what will be on the AP exam.  The AP Human Geography Exam is scheduled for Tuesday, May 4, 2021 and this course will not only prepare them for this test but also deepen the students' understanding of world issues.

As we navigate through this school year, please feel free to reach out to me via email at lauren.rivera@tvcs.org.  I am quick to respond and am here to help as much as I can.

THANK YOU to everyone for their time, dedication and commitment.  I know this has been a difficult and sometimes frustrating situation, but together we will get through and come out better than before.  Know that I want nothing more to be with your students, teaching them and that we will be doing everything we can to keep everybody safe and well-cared for.

As always, I remain in your service.

With sincere gratitude and appreciation,

Lauren Rivera, M.B.A
